Gympie Amateur Athletics Club Inclusion Policy Statement

Policy Statement

Gympie Amateur Athletic Club welcomes all athletes and is committed to develop fundamental skills of athletes of all ages and abilities by promoting a healthy lifestyle in a fun environment through family and community involvement using athletic activities.

Equity Statement

Gympie Amateur Athletic Club is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development. Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking the steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structures of sport to ensure that it becomes equally accessible to all members of society, whatever their age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality or social economic status.

The club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social economic status. The club is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation, harassment and abuse. All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity. The club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour seriously, according to club disciplinary procedures.

Inclusive Environment

Gympie Amateur Athletics volunteers use developmentally appropriate practices and consider the unique needs of all athletes. Every attempt will be made to make any adaptations or modifications necessary to meet the needs of the athletes. Programs and activities are flexible and the club will work with parents, therapists, special educators and other professionals to integrate individual modifications and strategies to support the athletes.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality applies to all verbal and written information about potential, enrolling and previous athletes and their families to respect the protection of privacy. No information will be released about an athlete or the legal guardian during the season without first receiving the permission from the legal guardian. This excludes the responsibility held by the volunteers as mandated reporters of suspected child abuse or neglect.
